Metal substrates

Core competence: brazed metal substrates

For more than 40 years Oberland Mangold has been producing metal substrates that are used as catalyst or filter substrates in a wide variety of applications, from small engines to industrial plants. Our metal substrates are characterised by high temperature stability, excellent thermal conductivity and high mechanical strength. These properties allow integration close to the engine in exhaust systems and considerably reduce assembly effort.

Catalyst structures

The cell matrix of Oberland Mangold metal substrates consists of ultra-thin, high-alloy stainless steel foils that are brazed under high vacuum. This innovative structure offers:

  • Large surface area for optimum catalytic conversion rates
  • Minimal back pressure thanks to thin cell walls
  • Outstanding thermal and mechanical stability
  • Long service life thanks to high resistance to thermal shock
  • Easy integration into exhaust systems thanks to simple weldability

Fields of application

Our metal substrates are used as catalyst substrates in applications that place the highest demands on thermomechanical properties:

  • Small engines
  • Motorcycles
  • Passenger cars
  • Commercial vehicles
  • Industrial plants

Standard cell structure

The standard cell structure is used as an oxidation catalyst or as a three-way catalyst and offers:

  • Low exhaust back pressure
  • Wide range of cell densities (50–1200 cpsi)
  • Outstanding thermomechanical resistance
  • Compatible with almost all available catalytic coatings

WF structure

The WF cell structure is suitable for oxidation catalysts or three-way catalysts with increased efficiency. It offers:

  • Optimised channel structure for better gas exchange
  • Optimised catalytic activity
  • Improved light-off behaviour
  • Compatible with a wide range of catalytic coatings

Open filter structure

This structure serves as a passive particulate reduction system:

  • Effective reduction of particle emissions (particle number & mass) for applications without the possibility of active regeneration
  • Can be catalytically coated
